O.F.A.H. /Mario Cortellucci Hunting and Fishing Heritage Centre
Opening in Early 2010!

For more than 150 years, anglers and hunters have led the movement to conserve fish and wildlife in North America. Even today, they contribute more than just about any group to our natural resources, financially and through on-the-ground conservation initiatives.

The O.F.A.H./Mario Cortellucci Hunting and Fishing Heritage Centre, currently being built in Peterborough, Ontario will celebrate our Canadian hunting and fishing heritage, and the magnificence of our fish and wildlife. When the centre opens in early 2010, it will provide a unique educational experience for school children and other visitors through a hands-on learning experience. Interactive displays and dioramas of wildlife, videos presented in the onsite Toronto Sportsmen's Show Amphitheatre, fish native to Ontario swimming in the spectacular Shimano fresh water aquarium, and displays of record Ontario fish will enthrall young and old alike.

"Since the beginning of time mankind hunted and fished for sustenance. Through the centre, school children and others will have the opportunity to see how hunting, fishing and trapping helped native Canadians and European settlers to survive and prosper," says the heritage centre's major benefactor, Mario Cortellucci, a developer and philanthropist. "When we teach children to appreciate what Mother Nature provides us, we pass on important traditions and teachings aimed not to the destruction of life, but to the preservation and management of the resources that sustain life."

Many O.F.A.H. individual members and club members, and outdoor–friendly businesses have contributed to the construction of the heritage centre and more are getting involved all the time. The heritage centre is the realization of a goal set back in 1992, when Mr. David Wilson, a lifetime O.F.A.H. member and Peterborough businessman, bequeathed the property where the O.F.A.H. head office and heritage centre now stand.
